Child Nutrition


Did you know that every time you feed a child, you are teaching them about eating habits?  What are some things that you think a child should know about eating?

For today's early work, read pages 415-417 and create a do and don't T-chart for Providing Good Nutrition.  Add this to your ongoing early work.  This can be done with a partner.

No Matter What Life Hands You...

Certainly you have heard the expression, "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade".  Have you ever taken the time to reflect on what that means exactly?  We know lemons are sour and if you've ever eaten one, you know that the sourness makes  your face twist up in an unpleasant way.  Lemonade, on the other hand is typically enjoyed by all due to the sweetness of the drink.  Plus, it's usually served cold so it's refreshing and hits the spot.  It's satisfying.

So back to the expression... What does it mean?  Well, it's actually a metaphor for when life gets rough.  It means that we can take a negative that's been handed to us, work with it in a positive way (add some sugar), and turn the negative into something not so unpleasant.

Your turn: What negatives has life handed you?  Name three.  Explain what you did or how you reacted to turn those negatives into something you could handle and work with.

The Typical American Family

What is the typical American family?  Write a paragraph response on what you believe the typical American family to be.  You can include information such as structure, roles, expectations of family members, and function.  This is opinion based so there is no right or wrong just your thought on the topic.  Hold for discussion.

Reinforcer review

For today's early work, answer the following questions in bulleted list format.  Refer to Module 2 as needed:

  1. What is a reinforcer?
  2. How many types of reinforcers are there?
  3. Give an example of each type of reinforcer
  4. Is it OK to give every child the exact same reinforcer? Why or why not?

Today's EW is to define some vocabulary terms that you'll use and hear frequently in class.

Your words are:
  1. Intelligence Quotient
  2. Cultural Bias
  3. Multiple Intelligence
  4. Phonemes
  5. Alliteration
  6. Bilingual
  7. Finger Plays
These words can be found in Chapter 15.


Temperament

Everyone has a unique temperament.  Temperament patterns are related to basic behavior in these four areas:

  1. How you express yourself intellectually.
  2. How active you are physically.
  3. How you feel and express your emotions.
  4. How social you are.
